 My best friend is having a birthday in a few weeks and I did this for him.  The statue in the toon is a real one in the old Monroe Cemetery.  The guy's wife put up the statue after his death with him holding their marriage license carved in stone to shut up the family who said they were never married and she shouldn't inherit.  Only in Louisiana!

I grew up in New Orleans in the 60's so of course my new favorite show these days is "Treme" on HBO. The first episode has Steve Zhan's character going on about how New Orleans and Louisiana in general were better off when the Mafia ran things and how flooding after Katrina never would have happened with Carlos still at the helm. I remembered living down there during that period and one of my funniest memories was of my football coach, a huge Italian in a neck brace, who also was in a certain organization. I remember him yelling all the time in that New Orleans/Brooklyn accent that they alway get wrong in the movies. No wonder "The Sopranos" always seemed more like a documentary to me!
